The player controls one of the twelve nations, changing into different ones. The game begins with the Stone Age, then you can go into the century of farming, the bronze age and the Iron Age. The player controls units that can attack, build buildings, collect resources.
 In the game there are 4 types of resources: gold, stone, wood and food. The tree is required for building buildings, ships, farms and for training archers. The stone is used to build towers and walls. Food is needed for most units and technologies. Gold is needed for later technologies and units.
 The goal of the game is usually to defeat all opponents. When playing with multiple players, diplomacy acts, respectively, they can be allies, neutral or enemies.
